Director cut
Sudhir Mishra is renowned for making realistic cinemas with thoughtful storylines. This movie is also an eccentric romantic thriller which is full of suspense. Sudhir gives you a feel of realistic cinema, with real dialogues and gritty camera works. This film has his ‘signature style’ and will also give you a reflection of his earlier hard hitting and meaningful films like ‘ Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ and ‘Is Raat Ki Subaah Nahin’.
Cinematography is remarkable as the actors emotions have been capture extreme close- up.
Nishant Khan’s music is good and most importantly it carry forward the Storyline. The title track Yeh Saali Zindegi is pappy and conformist.
Performance
Irrfan Khan as Arun has given a brilliant performance of an intense lover with a quirky sense of humour. Chitrangda as Priti plays her role of a vulnerable girl with intense depth to her character. Her vivacious nature adds grace to her character. Arunoday Singh as a gangster is a surprise package who delivers a mouthful of abusive languages and intense love making scenes effortlessly. Aditi Rao as Shanti is fresh and exudes raw sex appeal.
In Shotr(Ups and Downs)
Ups
You can go for this movie if you want to see a idiosyncratic love story with awesome instants & unpredicted Climax. There are some awesome performances by lead actors, vigorous yet expressive music and some real hard hitting dialogues.
Downs
The screenplay is taut but loses its grip, especially post-interval. It is inexplicable how Irrfan’s men magically appear every time one of them is required. Dialogue definitely makes an impact but it will keep the family audience away. If the narrative will be applauded by the niche audience, the common man will find the proceedings difficult to comprehend. Also, too many characters and events causes confusion. And finally, the bullet sequence at the climax is totally filmy
Verdicts
Kudos to Sudhir Mishra for executing such an unusual saga of quirky romantic thriller. He has beautifully explored the unpredictability and truth of life and complexities in contemporary relationships. The roller coaster ride of emotions and the characterization is perfect. The pace of the movie drops in between, but the lively; conversation narration keeps the suspense going. The characterization, unconventional set up demands instant attention. The beauty of this movie is the interconnections within characters which unfold slowly and eventually. The movie has been done keeping in mind a niche audience who loves a gritty, violent, dark thriller with romance as background. The Boxoffice prospective of this movie is not looking great due to lack of any big stars. This film will be liked only by the city audience and select multiplexes.
