Oscars Mirror : The King’s Speech Sweeps Main Awards, Social Network Disappoints and AR Rahman failed to recreate ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Magic.
British royal drama The King’s Speech won four major awards at the 83rd Academy Awards (Oscars) on Sunday night in Los Angeles, triumphing over the other favorite The Social Network.
AR Rahman failed to recreate his ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Oscar magic this year, losing out in the Best Original Score and Best Song categories at the 83rd Academy Awards here on Monday.
The biggest gala night in Hollywood had its share of ups and downs as the co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway flubbed in their bid to entertain the packed Kodak Theatre and billions of viewers worldwide. Anne did display moments of genuine sparkle, but Franco was decidedly uptight and hardly funny. But the moment that left many shocked was when actress Melissa Leo, while accepting the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in ‘The Fighter’ dropped what Christian Bale later called ‘The F Bomb’ by using the forbidden word on live TV.
The night had disappointment in store for The Social Network director David Fincher as he failed to pick the Best Directing trophy, losing out to Tom Hooper for The King’s Speech.
The King Speech won four Oscars: Original Screenplay (David Seidler), Best Actor (Colin Firth), Best Directing (Tom Hooper) and Best Picture.
Natalie Portman deservingly won the Best Actress Oscar for her stunning performance in Black Swan. Christian Bale won the Best Supporting Actor, and Melissa Leo the Best Supporting Actress.
