Review Of Tanu Weds manu

Ratings : 2.8
Tanu weds Manu starts as a crisp amusing comedy, but bizarrely looses its grasp by the end. The climax is stretched, little bit unrealistic and also boring, at simple word Nothing new. Though the pairing is fresh, but chemistry is surely lacking between the two. The ‘tedha raasta’ to marriage is interesting but not so happing. It’s a one time watch movie.

Story Treatment:
Manu (R. Madhavan) plays a lovable NRI doctor, who has the misfortune of falling in love with a Kanpur-girl Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) who not only discards him as her Man but also uses him to flee with her ruffian boyfriend. Hiding his heartbreak and grief behind a smile, Manu fits into the role of a prefect hindi film’s Husband, who has the dare to scarifies his life for her love. He is utterly in love with Tanu who doesn't miss a single opportunity to hurt him. The journey of Tanu & manu started with lots of Naach-Ganna, Dhoom-dhadaka, Rona-Dhona makes a complete bollywood movie.
Tanu weds manu  is basically a rom-com and It is not just a common wedding movie. It is a mixer of emotions, humor, romance and complex relationships. The characterization is perfect as Tanu is strong and rebellious and Manu is silent and rational. The plot may give you a feel of ‘Jab We Met’, though the performances and storyline is quite underrated.
Technical Cuts
Anand Rai has a intension of  making  a rom-com movie with bit of twists and turns but the concept of marriage and love between diverse personalities is nothing new in bollywood and the script is punctured, then the on-screen chemistry between Madhavan and Kangana lacking & the narrative doesn't flow at the desired pace - it's slower than it should be. But the work that has to highlighted is the different flavor of small cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Punjab that he has weaved in the story.
It has a brilliant on location cinematography giving you an earthy and authentic feel. Beside that there is nothing noteworthy in the camera work. Dialogs are good; specially the mix of UP & Dialect gives the movie and the characters a real touch.
The music of the movie is the strong point. It has freshness and will surely force music buffs tap their feet. You can’t stop furrowing to ‘Kadi Sadi Gali’ as you move around narrow alleys of Punjab. Background music goes well with the feel of the film. The song & dance sequence has intelligently choreographed, particularly on the track of “Kajra Mohabat Wala”. Editing is crisp.
Star’s Performances
Madhaban is very good in his part. He has demonstrated a high class exhibition of control emotions and expression with delightful dialog delivery. Same thing can’t be said about Kangana, she looks nice at times, but fails to perform as a girl who lives by her own rules. Her accent and carefree performance gets bit too overboard. But one man deserve all the Talies is Deepak Dobriya, he  is fabulous & superb with his side-role and deserve much better place unarguably. Swara Bhaskar, who plays her friend Payal, holds the fort as the Bihari girl. But immy Shergill as Kangana's ruffian boyfriend is wasted; he is really under-played because of under-written story line. And also Ravi Kishen is wasted as his sidekick.
In Short(Ups & Downs)
Ups
  • The touching point of the movie is it’s music and strong performance by some lead actors, specially madhavan and Deepka.
  • The chemistry between Madhavan and Deepak Dobriyal is very good. Infect what ever hummers & funny scene are there, credit goes to both of them.
  • The Frist half is enjoyable with some applicable sequences supported by some great one liner dialogues in the local liner.
  • The small-town feel is very well captured by director Anand L Rai, it has been shot in not-so-explored areas of Nagpur, Lucknow and Punjab and also including Mohd Rafi songs playing on the patio under the moonlight, little lasses learning dance from Nach Baliye & Nagina classes, families singing songs in trains, watching movies together and a bazaar that’s lined up with English speaking courses.
Downs
  • The storyline has nothing extraordinary in it, mainly the two lead conflicting characters.
  • The pace of the film drops in the second half and the climax is far too stretched and the culmination doesn’t come as a surprise, it’s predictable. The unexciting twists and turns ending with typical drama just before the wedding would have been acceptable a few decades ago.
  • A few scenes like the court marriage one look quite unreasonable. There are times when Kangana goes over the top as a self-proclaimed insurgent and is so wannabe.
  • The lack of fresh thought and substance all through the film keeps you detached from the goings-on.
Verdicts
Tanu weds Manu starts as a crisp amusing comedy, but bizarrely looses its grasp by the end. The climax is stretched, little bit unrealistic and also boring, at simple word Nothing new. Though the pairing is fresh, but chemistry is surely lacking between the two. The ‘tedha raasta’ to marriage is interesting but not so happing. It’s a one time watch movie.
Boxoffice Analysis : The movie has been made with a control Budget of 17.5cr. So it will be cake walk for the producer to recover their investment. Also the distributors will make a good money because the right of the movie has been sold around 7cr(MG) to different distributor of India, except Mumbai territory. The movie will do good business in North site & in small center because the subject has all general Bollywood substance. By looking at the trends, the weekends business will be around 11.85-12cr and in the long run it will finish around 23-24cr. Another real success story for Bollywood Industry.
