Tanu Weds Manu Turning It On By Registering A Golden Hit At The Boxoffice

After two weeks of disappointment, Tanu Weds Manu has able to return the smiles of the Distributors. While the big budget films are bumped in the boxoffice, it’s small budget movie winning the race. After a good 1st weekend of  11.25cr, the film fared very steadily in the week days.  Monday showed a steady trend registering a fall of around 45% all over India. Then the film picks-up the momentum and showed an upward trend in Tuesday & Wednesday. While Tuesday was helped by the fact that,  Shivatri Was on Wednesday which was a major holiday in parts of the country and evening shows recorded very good collections where there was holiday on Wednesday. Thursday showed a normal fall around 55% from Wednesday collection.
The week’s Breakdown as follows , Friday: 3.26cr, Saturday:  4.33cr, Sunday: 3.68cr, Monday: 1.75cr, Tuesday: 1.98cr, Wednesday : 2.31cr, Thursday:  1.25cr. Total: 18.56 cr nett.

The movie has already recovered its cost of distributors. The film has been sold to different distributor with a very reasonable price of 7 cr approx, except Mumbai territory. And the film recovered all its cost from 1st week itself.

Some of the circuit like East Punjab has been sold to distributor at a price of 1.05 cr and the movie recovered 1.30 distributor share from 1st week it self.  Similarly The Delhi/UP circuit has generated a share of nearly 3 crore in week one and the film was sold for 2 crore in the circuit.
It’s obvious that the Viacom18 will also earn very good profit(The producers sold the film to Viacom18). The film’s budget was around 17cr and because of its popular music and attractive promos, Viacom18 sold the film to various territory distributors (Minimum Guaranty level) and collecting 7.25 cr in the process(except Mumbai Territory ).

The company sold the Satellite Rights for 7.5 cr and  Music Rights & Home Video has fetched another Rs. 1 cr. That means, Viacom18 had already recovered approx. around 15.75 cr before the release of the film.  As Viacom18 has been distributing the film in Mumbai circuit and also in the overseas territory, it will surely add another 5-6 cr to their profit tally and also because of MG agreement with the distributor; it will add another 1.5/2cr. The Viacom18 is all set to make a profit around 30%-35% on the invested amount.
