Two films released at the box office this week – Excel Entertainment’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and the last installment of the Hollywood franchise Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2. Of the two, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 is ruling box-office collections, with a fantastic opening across India.
But tradewallahs feel there is hope for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, especially in major cities. As for Murder 2, which did wonders last week, it is still drawing a healthy response from the audience in its second week.
Distributors admit that you can’t compete with Harry Potter mania, especially since this release is the last in the franchise and is a smash hit with youngsters. Not surprisingly, the film has done well across most multiplexes. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, on the other hand, has not received colourful reports but it is expected to have the upper hand over the weekend.
“Since this film is the last in the series, it has the upper hand at the box office. Murder 2 remains steady in its second week even though it has fewer screens in its second week,” he reveals.
Sushil Kasat of Kasat films in CP Berar adds, “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara opened at 40 per cent. This is just average compared to the other release of the week, that is, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2. The latter enjoyed an opening of 90 per cent. Murder 2 in its second week is at par with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.”
In Orissa, Jeetu Khandelwal says that Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara scored over Harry Potter as it opened in 17 screens and fared better in A-class centres such as Bhubaneswar. “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 brought in average collections as it opened in only two centres. Murder 2 is still generating good business and is steady in its second week,” Khandelwal says.
Dilip Tondon of Indra Films, Nizam says, “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is good at big centres with 70 per cent opening as in the interior sector it got about 40 per cent opening. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 got an opening of 70 per cent average at all the centres. Due to two big releases Murder 2 had a drop in collections but is expected to improve over the weekend.”
